Bundy was executed in Florida in 1989 after he was convicted of three murders there. He had confessed to 30 killings across the country.

The photos were in a safe used as a newsroom table. Nobody knew what was inside or how to open it, but a local locksmith volunteered to crack it.

The Glenwood Springs Post-Independent reported Monday that the photos show Bundy in custody in 1977, the year he escaped from a Colorado courthouse while awaiting a murder trial.

Bundy was recaptured after fleeing the courthouse but escaped again after sawing a hole in the ceiling of a Colorado jail cell. He was arrested again in Florida.
