“I do not understand why I let it come to this point.” “It is all my fault,” he said.
In 2014, Van de Velde flew from the Netherlands to Milton Keynes in England to have sex with the girl, who he met on Facebook. He admitted to three counts of rape against a child.
And if I want to return in the Dutch national team, I do need to start talking about the last years.” “That I am not, really not. “I understand that (what was written in the newspapers) was quite bad, that I have been branded as a sex monster, as a pedophile,” Van de Velde said, according to the Daily Mail. Everyone can have an opinion about me, but it is only fair if they also know my side of the story.
And despite his pervy ways, Van de Velde doesn’t consider himself a “sex monster,” insisting he should be allowed to rejoin the Dutch national volleyball team.

A young beach volleyball star imprisoned for raping a 12-year-old British schoolgirl he met on Facebook plans on trying to make the Netherlands Olympic team.
Dirty Dutchman Steven Van de Velde, who served just one year of a four-year prison sentence after being convicted on multiple counts of rape, has been set free and will be allowed to continue his volleyball career, according to the Daily Mail. Van de Velde served his time in his native country, where sentences for sex offenders are often more lenient.
The 6-foot-5 native of Gouda told Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad his actions were “unbelievably stupid” and agreed he should have known better.
A year later, Van de Velde, 22, was convicted after a trial in Aylesbury Crown Court. He served barely 12 months of his four-year sentence.
Teamed up with Michiel van Dorsten, Van de Velde was seeded 30th at the 2015 world championships and ranked 77th in the world. Before being imprisoned, he was a rising star in beach volleyball.
