Prosecutors told a jury during opening statements that Jonathan Paul Koppenhaver, who changed his name to War Machine during his time as a MMA fighter, beat Mack for an extended period of time before telling her “This is it, I’ve got to kill you now.”
During Monday’s opening of the trial, court heard the 911 call Mack made as the incident unfolded. Koppenhaver allegedly beat on Thomas for 12 minutes before the victim said “you gotta kill me or you gotta let me go.” He was allowed to leave after vowing he wouldn’t “snitch” about the assault, court heard.
Koppenhaver, 35, is on trial for attempted murder, kidnapping and sexual assault — he is facing a total of 34 charges — stemming from an incident in August 2014, when he found Mack in bed with her then-boyfriend Corey Thomas.

After Thomas left, Koppenhaver allegedly turned on Mack, leaving her with a broken eye socket and ribs, lacerated liver, two missing teeth and extensive bruising all over her body. She was beaten for nearly two hours.
